How will Greenville County Council’s vote effect the future of Berea?

— UPDATE —

County Council Voted unanimously to deny re-zoning of the old Berea School property.

—-

Tuesday, April 21st at 6:00. The re-zoning of Berea is decided.

This Tuesday A VOTE will be held by Council to approve, deny or amend the request for several re-zonings in the Berea Community.

You must be present to show support and to ensure that the re-zoning is denied.

For the old Berea School property (CZ-2015-21):

Willis Meadows said “There is a time that citizens can speak at the beginning of the council meeting but they must sign-up before the meeting. This is a time that they can express their feelings about changing from OD to C-1.”

  • The Planning Commission recommended approval of the re-zoning request.
  • The Greenville County Staff recommended denial of the re-zoning request.
  • The Planning and Development Committee recommended denial of the re-zoning request.
  • Now at least eight votes are required to approve the re-zoning request.
  • If the rezoning request is denied then it will not go to a third reading.

What can you expect?
You’ll be sitting in on a regular County Council meeting and the re-zoning votes are just part of the entire meeting. Thankfully we have some “characters” on County Council so the meetings aren’t totally boring. 🙂

Speak up! Sign-up before the meeting and let County Council know that we do not need to change the re-zoning from OD-Office District. Let them know that the heart of a community should not be commercial property. Tell them there are plenty of vacant commercial properties available in the area and that there are few available office properties. County Council needs to know that this change will be detrimental to the future of the Berea Community.
