A historically themed mural planned for Berea Station

Berea Stations Events, Inc. is pleased to announce a new initiative to celebrate and preserve the history of the Berea community.  Berea, A Look Back is a multiphase project partnership consisting of local artist, Adam C. Schrimmer, Berea High School students, and teachers, along with community residents.

With initial grant funding provided by the Metropolitan Arts Council of Greenville, students will conduct interviews with residents to capture the extensive oral history of the region.  From these collected stories and historical narrative, a visual representation of the community’s history will be featured in a panoramic mural located along the Swamp Rabbit Trail at Berea Station.  This artistic beautification enhancement will be a creative collaboration between Schrimmer, a renowned muralist, and Berea High School art students.

“I’m excited to work alongside and mentor the National Art’s Honor Society students of Berea High School to develop from start to finish a public art mural that pays homage to Berea’s rich sense of spirit and unique history,” said Adam C. Schrimmer, artist and owner Blank Canvas Mural Company.

In addition to the mural, the stories of numerous long-time community residents along with photos and historical images will be compiled into a book commemorating the rich and diverse history of Berea.  An event will be soon held at Berea Station to launch a fundraising campaign to fund the entirety of the project. To make a donation, please visit the Berea Stations Facebook page and click on the donate button.

“The concept for a mural at Berea Station has been our dream for more than two years,” said Lynn Fortner, Berea Stations Events chairperson. “Our primary goals for this project are to collect and preserve the history of Berea for future generations, to provide a scholarship fund for a selected student and to beautify and enhance the user experience along the Swamp Rabbit Trail through an artistic endeavor. The initial grant furnished by the Metropolitan Arts Council of Greenville is an incredible gift for our committee as we continue the fundraising process.”
