Letter from Joshua C. Morton:
I would like to offer a thank you to all of our supporters that came out to the game Friday night. Friday night was the first time in 5 years that the marching band performed at halftime at the first football game.
Our students were VERY excited, as was the staff, and myself. I could not be more grateful to the Berea community in its support of the BHS band program. Nearly 3 years ago, the Berea band program was nearly dissolved due to lack of interest. Now the band program, on the backs of loving, diligent, hard working students, has nearly 70 members total, new instruments, and new uniforms on the way.
This is something to be proud about. Now that the program is in place and stable, slowly you will see things grow and advance. I ask that you and I do our part and help empower our students. How can you do this? First, be positive. I am very aware that under the incredible leadership of a dear friend of mine, Jim McMahan, the Berea band program was incredible. That generation of the band program is motivation for my students even to this day. I believe that for our band program to return to that place honor, we must be positive. Yes our band program has areas of growth. Please know that we have highly qualified individuals who are trained to address those areas of growth. What we need from you is positive reinforcement. When you come to the football games, CHEER FOR THE BAND. When you hear about them from friends, speak well of them.
Secondly, volunteer with the booster club. This Thursday at 7:30 pm we will have an interest meeting for all those who want to help with the support group of our band program, the Berea High School Band Booster Club. Please come out and be a part. WE NEED YOU!
